POST Editorial
Standards

POST Newspapers aims to inform its readers and enrich their lives with fair, factual, original, clear reporting and interpretation of local issues. Founded in 1996 by the editorial staff of still-independent Post Newspapers Pty Ltd (founded 1977), POST Newspapers adopts strong editorial standards that mirror those of the Australian Press Council and the Journalist Code of Ethics.

Fair and balanced

Post reporters must, using only fair news-gathering methods, do their utmost to gather and disclose all relevant facts on all sides of an issue before committing to publication.

Factual

Clear differentiation between fact and opinion in all reporting.

Avoidance of harm

Privacy is respected but at times it must be balanced with the public interest. Anonymous sources are used only when publication is in the public interest, in which case confidences are rigidly honoured.

Commercial influence

Commercial considerations do not influence reporting. Editorial-style advertisements are clearly identified as such.

Checks and balances

A series of formal internal pre-publication editing and checking systems are in place to ensure that stated editorial standards are maintained for each report.
