A liquor license application has been lodged for another Andrew-Forrest-linked waterfront hotel called Forrest on Swan, in front of the University of WA, The 66-room hotel will be in the recently completed second stage two of Forrest Hall in Hackett Drive, Crawley, a project originally announced as accommodation for visiting academics. The controversial two-stage complex on the prime riverside spot was promoted as residences for “scholars and fellows” taking part in the Forrest Research Foundation. UWA’s plans to open a new $35million building as an international hotel have provoked a furious reaction from the local community.

Melbourne property mogul Tim Gurner says he is confident people will pay top dollar to live on Stirling Highway if his plans for the Chellingworth site in Nedlands are realised. “We are not deterred by busy roads,” Mr Gurner said this week. “They provide great access to transport and public transport for our future residents. “It is all about how the building is constructed and designed … which we have done countless times over the past 15 years.” Mr Gurner arrived in Perth on Thursday ahead of a crucial development assessment panel (DAP) meeting that could determine the fate of his supersized three-tower project.
